Welcome March and the emergence of Spring

Welcome to March and with it the return of sunshine.

Here in the South of the UK, the sun is shining. While there’s still a chill in the air, the anticipation of Spring’s warmth is already palpable.

The Spring Equinox on 20th March marks the official start of Spring, when day and night are balanced, symbolising renewal and fresh beginnings. For me, the Spring Equinox is the true start of the year, a time when the energy of the Earth stirs us into action, giving us the push to bring the plans and intentions from January and February to life.

So our theme for March is emergence.

The emergence of the sun today has given me more energy than I have had of late. I have been for a Saturday Parkrun with friends and am now home, ready for some La Vida Lagom planning for March.

As I prepare for my upcoming Breathe & Release Women’s Wellbeing retreat, I feel a renewed sense of energy, and I encourage you to tap into this optimism by setting aside time for something that excites you this month. Whether it’s an activity or a new goal, the spring energy is perfect for bringing positivity into our lives.

March is also a time when we celebrate women—through International Women’s Day on 8th March and Mother’s Day later in the month. The energy of these celebrations flows naturally into my retreat, where I’ll be hosting empowering women for a weekend of self-care and personal growth.

Here are some suggested activities for you to welcome the Spring in March:

  • Try mindful walking. You don’t have to sit to meditate. Instead, walk with intention—paying attention to the textures beneath your feet, the temperature around you, and the sounds of nature. Whether you follow a guided meditation or simply walk in silence, embrace the present moment.
  • Commit to the cultivation of a new healthy habit. Spend some time reflecting on your current habits and identify those that no longer serve your goals. Consider swapping one unhealthy habit for a healthier one—like replacing morning phone scrolling with a brisk walk or a short yoga flow.
  • Practice mindful eating. Mindful eating can help you understand whether you’re eating out of true hunger, habit, or comfort. By slowing down and paying attention to how food makes you feel, you’ll better tune into your body’s needs and improve your relationship with food.
  • Learn something new – Learning something new doesn’t have to be complicated—whether it’s picking up a new hobby, learning a new language, or exploring a new subject online, the act of learning fosters creativity and curiosity, both of which are vital for a healthy mind.

March is a time of renewal—what new intentions or habits will you cultivate this month? I encourage you to embrace the optimism and fresh energy around us, and to take time for yourself amidst the new beginnings of Spring.
